It was a beautiful day: although it was mid-autumn, it was warm enough for us to be wearing only one layer: a khaki green Dickies t-shirt for him, a skinny-fit Blink-182 t-shirt for me. We were both wearing black jeans. The sun shone through the canopy of golden leaves above us. The soil, rather than being moist as it should in the middle of autumn, was dry and covered in the leaves that the trees had shed. 

We came to a clearing. The floor was littered with fallen leaves, which seemed to be reflecting the golden glow of the sun around the glade. 

He stopped walking and stood still. I stopped and slowly, I turned towards him, my eyes gazing shyly at the ground. Eventually I looked up and my eyes met his. I gazed into his blue-grey eyes, with the rings of brown around the pupils. I took in his shoulder-length, wavy brown hair with his naturally blond highlights and the loose ringlets at the tips. I examined his perfectly shaped lips, and my heart skipped a beat when those perfect lips tilted upwards into the world’s most perfect smile. I lifted my right hand to lovingly trace his cheek, and I slowly swept his hair back behind his ear.

It felt as though we'd left everything behind us; that the there was only us left in the entire world. It was the most amazing thing that I'd ever felt. If ever there was an argument for running away from home, this was it. No-one understood us in the outside world. Humanity seemed to ostracise us when we were around them. But right then, right there, it felt as if we’d abandoned the entire world. It felt as if we weren’t two separate people. It felt as if we had become one entity, thinking and feeling as one, completely attuned to one another.

He brought his head down towards me, his face breathtakingly close to mine. He placed his hands gently on my hips. I put my arms around his neck and paused. We gazed into each other’s eyes... and in that moment I swear, we were infinite. I knew that nothing in the world could destroy the feeling of utter tranquillity, happiness and love that I was feeling in those few seconds. That moment seemed to last for an eternity. It was complete serenity, and I could see his whole world reflected in his eyes. Reflected in his eyes, I saw myself.
